Affecting hardworking American drivers, nearly 1.1 million Ford vehicles were recalled in the United States due to a potentially dangerous rearview camera issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall this week, citing potentially dangerous rearview camera failures that could leave drivers vulnerable on the road.
It affects 1,075,299 vehicles across multiple model years, including American favorites like the F-150 pickup truck and the Bronco SUV.
This sweeping action targets vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2024, including several models that represent the backbone of American automotive manufacturing and rural transportation.
According to federal regulators, the problem stems from a software error that could prevent the rearview camera from displaying images when the vehicle is in reverse.
This malfunction increases the risk of accidents and poses a significant safety concern for drivers and their families.
The pull encompasses a wide range of popular Ford vehicles, including the 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, and Edge models.
Additionally, specific 2023-2024 models of the Escape, Corsair, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600 are included.
Ford’s electric vehicles have not escaped the issue either, with the 2021-2023 Mach-E also on the recall list.
The problem involves explicitly the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software, which is essential for the proper functioning of the vehicle’s dashboard and infotainment system.
When this software malfunctions, the rearview camera image can be delayed, freeze completely, or fail to display when the driver shifts into reverse.
In a move that will at least save vehicle owners from costly repair bills, Ford dealerships will update the defective software via an over-the-air update at no cost to owners.
The company plans to notify owners of the safety risk by mail by June 16, though a second notification regarding the actual fix will not be sent until the remedy is available, which is expected sometime in the third quarter of 2025.
This recall comes as many American automakers are already struggling with supply chain issues, inflation, and increasing government regulations that drive up the cost of manufacturing.
Car owners concerned about whether their Ford is affected by this issue can visit the NHTSA website or contact their local Ford dealership directly.
While tech advances, the balance between innovation and safety remains crucial. American patriots expect brilliance to be matched by bulletproof reliability.
