McDonald’s Ambush Leaves Child Shot

A quiet family stop at a Florida McDonald’s turned into an ambush-style shootout that left an 11-year-old girl and her father bleeding in their car while the gunman walked free.

Story Snapshot

  • A father and his 11-year-old daughter were shot while sitting in their car at a Hallandale Beach McDonald’s, and police say they were innocent bystanders.
  • Investigators believe a suspect came to the restaurant to ambush someone, and one person in the gunfight may be a McDonald’s employee.
  • Both victims are in stable condition, but the girl needed surgery after being rushed from the scene.
  • Despite security cameras and a house-to-house search, the shooter is still at large, raising serious questions about public safety and corporate responsibility.

Family Caught in Crossfire Outside Hallandale Beach McDonald’s

Hallandale Beach police say the shooting happened Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the McDonald’s on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, about 18 miles north of Miami.[4]

The family had just arrived when the mother went inside to pick up food, leaving the father and their 11-year-old daughter waiting in the car.[1]

Officers say an argument broke out between other people in the lot, and gunfire struck the family’s vehicle, hitting both father and child as they sat in their seats.[1]

Police and reporters describe the victims as innocent bystanders who had nothing to do with the fight that led to the shooting.[4] Captain Megan Jones of the Hallandale Beach Police Department said, “We had two innocent bystanders here injured due to an altercation that had nothing to do with them.”[2]

The girl was conscious and crying when officers reached her, and first responders rushed both victims to a nearby hospital where they were listed in stable condition.[1]

Ambush-Style Attack and Possible Employee Involvement

Investigators now believe this was not random gunfire but an attempted ambush of a specific person at the restaurant.[2] Police say a suspect appeared to be waiting at the McDonald’s to attack someone, and that ambush turned into an exchange of gunfire between multiple individuals.[4]

Captain Jones said detectives “do believe that one of the parties involved was a McDonald’s employee,” though they are still working to learn if the worker was a target or an active part of the gunfight.[1]

This case fits a troubling pattern in Florida, where fast-food parking lots and drive-throughs have become hot spots for violent disputes and drive-by attacks.[20]

Local crime reports show several recent shootings at McDonald’s locations in cities like Lakeland and Jacksonville, often starting with an argument and ending with shots fired while customers and children are nearby.[16]

Workplace safety advocates have warned that McDonald’s corporate policies do not do enough to protect workers or customers from repeated violence on their properties.[20]

Manhunt, Corporate Silence, and Public Safety Concerns

Suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, and police have not released a description of the shooter.[4] Hallandale Beach detectives are reviewing security footage from the restaurant and surrounding area, and officers even went door to door in the neighborhood behind the McDonald’s looking for the gunman.[1]

The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed Hallandale Beach police are leading the case and asked anyone with video or information to contact the department or Broward Crime Stoppers.[1]

While law enforcement works the case, McDonald’s corporate voices have stayed mostly quiet about the reported employee involvement and repeated violence at their stores.[20] That silence worries many families who see these restaurants as everyday stops for kids’ meals and quick dinners.

When workers and customers are caught in gunfire, and ambush attacks happen in broad daylight, people want stronger security, clearer statements, and real accountability from the companies that profit off these locations.[16]
