Deathbed Confession Solves Infamous Murders

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Like a scene out of a movie, only this was real life, a deathbed murder confession has led investigators to uncover the bodies of a mother and daughter who vanished 24 years ago.

Larry Webb had long been under suspicion in the disappearance of Susan Carter and her 10-year-old daughter, Alex Carter. They were reported missing in 2000 when they were living with Webb amid Susan’s custody battle.

Nearly two years ago, North Carolina State Police searched Webb’s home and found evidence supporting their suspicions.

According to FBI Senior Supervisory Resident Agent Tony Rausa, the authorities discovered a bullet lodged in the wall, and subsequent DNA tests confirmed that the blood on it belonged to Alex Carter.

In addition, multiple law enforcement agencies joined forces on the case, which gathered more evidence and secured an indictment against Webb.

However, he was in a nursing home and unfit for trial due to his poor health but investigators interviewed him, during which he confessed to the crime.

Raleigh County Prosecutor Ben Hatfield said, “It was a detailed, undeniable, unconflicted confession and it aligned exactly with the investigative efforts and the evidence collected.”

According to reports, Webb admitted to arguing with Susan Carter over missing cash, which he believed she had stolen. He claimed to have shot her during the altercation, and fearing detection, he also shot Alex Carter.

Hatfield continued, “Once he had killed both individuals he stored them in the basement of the home where he cried himself to sleep that night. Over the course of the next two nights he dug a shallow grave on his property.”

Likewise, Webb disclosed the location of the bodies to the police, but due to his failing health and memory, he could not pinpoint the exact spot. Even when taken to the scene, he could not provide accurate information.

Eventually, after three days of digging in his backyard, the remains were found.

Webb was later moved from the nursing home to a correctional facility, where he passed away on the same day the victims’ bodies were discovered.

FBI Agent Rausa commented, “Larry Webb was on his death bed and was looking to meet Jesus. These guys did an excellent job at getting that confession out of him.”
