(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Shocking even veteran NYPD detectives, an older man was arrested after it was discovered that he had $3 million dollars and 30 pounds of cocaine hidden in his furniture.
Specifically, a 60-year-old man from the Bronx, named Juan Rondon, was caught by the police on Wednesday. He had almost 30 pounds of cocaine and around $3 million hidden in his apartment.
Juan Rondon was born in the Dominican Republic and was sent back there from the U.S. in 2006. The police started watching him after they saw him go into his apartment at 3405 Gates Place with a bag, come out with it, and then go back without it. Inside, they found a huge amount of cocaine and $3 million in cash hidden in secret spots inside Rondon’s furniture.
The DEA’s Special Agent in Charge, Frank Tarentino, said, “A multi-million-dollar drug den looked like any ordinary apartment until our agents and investigators uncovered hidden compartments in various pieces of furniture filled with contraband. Over 12 kilos of cocaine and over three million dollars of drug proceeds were seized as part of this ongoing investigation.”
The police found the hidden money and drugs in places you wouldn’t expect, like inside dressers, nightstands, and a coffee table. They found huge amounts of cash in bags, all bundled up and marked with dates from over many years.
Rondon is facing serious charges for having a large amount of drugs and for being part of a major drug trafficking operation. He can’t leave jail because he’s being held without the possibility of paying bail, according to what the police said in their charges.
Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan commented on the case, saying, “This investigation shows how lucrative the cocaine trafficking business can be. Investigative savvy and perseverance, with some canine assistance, netted the narcotics proceeds and prevented millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine from hitting the streets of New York City and surrounding areas.”
Right now, Rondon is in jail and cannot pay to get out.
