DONALD TRUMP

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In an unashamed attempt to erase one of America’s most impactful historical moments, Google recently admitted that its autocomplete tool failed to include information about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

As this issue sparked controversy online, an attorney for Google’s parent company told the House Judiciary Committee that bugs in Google’s autocomplete tool were responsible for this omission.

The attorney explained that Google’s safeguards for political violence searches were “out of date” and did not capture the attempt on Trump’s life from three weeks ago.

Google’s autocomplete function also had problems with searches like “President Donald” and similar terms. Surprisingly, these bugs were fixed after being reported to Google.

Additionally, Google said an algorithmic error led to news stories about Kamala Harris—Trump’s rival in the 2024 election—appearing when users searched for Trump.

Before a private briefing with the Judiciary Committee staff, committee chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) wrote a letter to Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai where it included questions about the search issues.

“Recent reporting has indicated that Google may now be interfering in the 2024 presidential election by censoring information about former President Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign for the presidency, including relating to the July 13 assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania,” the letter read.

Moreover, Jordan requested specific details about the bugs that caused searches for “President Donald” not to show autocomplete suggestions for Trump’s name. He also inquired about the bugs that led to Harris’s stories appearing in Trump searches.

Trump and many conservatives criticized the search issues, prompting Google to issue a detailed statement addressing allegations of political censorship.

“After the horrific events in Butler, PA, those predicted queries should have appeared but didn’t. Once the issue was flagged, we started working on improvements, and they’re already rolling out. You can see many relevant predictions now,” Google said on X last week.

Google clarified that the “President Donald” search issue also affected searches for other presidents, like former President Obama. They stated that the autocomplete problem for such searches has been resolved.

In addition, Google is not the only tech giant facing scrutiny over the Trump assassination attempt. Meta, too, faced backlash for suppressing images of Trump after he was shot.

Trump told Fox News last week that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called him to apologize for the apparent censorship and assured him that Meta was fixing the issue.
