(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Shocking the so-called political experts, a new public opinion poll shows Donald Trump has moved ahead of Joe Biden and the Green Party’s presidential candidate, Cornel West, in a potential three-way race in the 2024 election.

Trump enjoys a slight advantage among registered voters, according to the results from the national survey of Emerson College released on Saturday, as cited by Breitbart News.

The poll found 42% would vote for Trump, 41% would choose Biden, and 5% would support West. The remaining 13% of the respondents were undecided.

The polls also explored the scenario of a head-to-head Trump-Biden matchup, finding the former president’s advantage stood at 0.7 percentage points without rounding. If the results are rounded up, Trump and Biden are shown to be tied at 44%, while 12% of the voters remained undecided.

Emerson College, one of the best-rated pollsters on FiveThirtyEight, surveyed a third scenario in which pop star Taylor Swift runs for president of the United States.

That scenario showed Trump’s support stable at 42%, Biden slipping to 39%, and Swift grabbing 8%, more than the Green Party candidate in scenario one above.

Thus, the “Taylor Swift” option “shows that Trump’s base of support is more potent than Biden’s,” Breitbart points out, quoting Emerson College’s polling director, Spencer Kimball.

“The Swift test suggests that Biden’s support is softer than Trump’s, whose support is more locked-in,” Kimball said.

“Biden is more vulnerable to third-party options like West, who appears to appeal more to Biden’s voter base than Trump’s,” the analyst added.

The 2024 presidential election portion of Emerson’s poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters between August 16-17, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

Almost half of those surveyed – 465 – were likely Republican primary voters, and the poll also looked into the 2024 GOP presidential primary.

The pollster found that Trump’s lead over the second most popular GOP candidate, Ron DeSantis, has spiked to 45 points – with the former president scoring 56% support and Florida’s governor collapsing to 10%.

Thus, DeSantis has lost 11 points since the previous Emerson poll in June and is now tied with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who gained 8 points during that period. Kimball said DeSantis supporters are now “defecting” to the latter.
