In a significant move that highlights America’s resolve and mediation prowess, President Trump shared news about the last living US hostage held by Hamas in Gaza.
See the tweet below.
President Trump secured the release of the Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander.
He will return to his New Jersey home without any prisoner exchanges or concessions.
This confirms Trump’s foreign policy expertise and ability to bring Americans home safely.
Hamas announced it will release Alexander as “a step taken in good faith” toward the United States and regional mediators Qatar and Egypt.
The young man was kidnapped on October 7, 2023, during the terrorist organization’s brutal attack on Israeli citizens and has been held captive for over 19 months.
Trump confirmed the good news over the weekend, expressing gratitude to those involved in securing Alexander’s freedom.
“I am happy to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is coming home to his family. I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen,” Trump said.
He added:
“This was a step taken in good faith towards the United States and the efforts of the mediators — Qatar and Egypt — to put an end to this very brutal war and return ALL living hostages and remains to their loved ones. Hopefully this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal conflict. I look very much forward to that day of celebration!”
The President’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, is traveling to Israel to facilitate the release, while US special envoy for hostage affairs Adam Boehler is accompanying Alexander’s parents to reunite with their son.
At the same time, the Israeli government has been informed of the unconditional release, which demonstrates Hamas’s recognition of Trump’s leadership on the world stage.
Alexander’s journey reflects the complex reality of dual citizenship. Born in Israel and raised in the United States, he returned to Israel in 2022 and enlisted in the Israeli military.
His family has maintained their home in Tenafly, New Jersey, while their son served overseas to defend Israel from terrorist threats.
While Alexander’s release is a significant victory, the situation remains dire for 59 other hostages still in Gaza.
According to Trump, only 21 of them are believed to still be alive. The administration continues to press for the return of all hostages, including the remains of four deceased Americans still held by Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office confirmed they were informed of Alexander’s release as a goodwill gesture without conditions.
The release is expected to lead to further negotiations based on a proposal by Trump’s envoy Witkoff, potentially breaking the deadlock that has persisted throughout the conflict.
Moreover, Trump’s upcoming diplomatic tour will take him to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, showcasing his focus on building regional alliances to create lasting peace.
Though Israel is not on the itinerary, the President’s successful negotiation for Alexander’s release demonstrates his commitment to American citizens and strong support for one of America’s strongest allies.
Adam Boehler, the U.S. special envoy for hostage affairs, called Alexander’s imminent release “a positive step forward” while continuing to press for the return of all remaining hostages.
For the Alexander family, tomorrow will mark the end of a 19-month nightmare and the beginning of a healing process.
For America, it represents the fulfillment of the nation’s promise never to leave the citizens behind, and the advantage of having a president who commands respect on the world stage and delivers results when American lives are at stake.
