Top Republican Backs Biden; Attacks Trump Supporters

( – Infuriating Trump supporters, former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, who claims he’s a Republican, made public his decision to support Joe Biden in the upcoming November election while attacking fellow Republicans for aligning closely with former President Donald Trump.

In an op-ed for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan expressed disappointment in the trend of Republicans rallying behind Trump.

He asserted that he sees no alternative but to support Biden, labeling Trump as someone who has “disqualified himself through his conduct and his character.”

“… the GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era. Duncan stated, indicating that he, as a conservative but not an angry one, finds himself compelled to vote for Biden.

He also advocated for electing GOP congressional majorities to balance Biden’s legislative agenda if he secures a second term.

Moreover, Duncan cited Trump’s involvement in the New York hush money case and his propagation of baseless conspiracy theories that fueled the events of January 6, 2021, as factors influencing his decision.

He also criticized Trump and his associates for their association with fake elector schemes post-2020 election.

While acknowledging that some reluctant Trump supporters might cite policy differences with Biden or perceived chaos on college campuses, Duncan contested these arguments, asserting that Trump’s final year in office was anything but peaceful.

“Trump has shown us who he is. We should believe him. To think he is going to change at the age of 77 is beyond improbable,” Duncan remarked.

“Unlike Trump, I’ve belonged to the GOP my entire life. This November, I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” he said.

Duncan’s name was previously mentioned in connection with No Labels, a political organization exploring the possibility of presenting a bipartisan unity ticket.

However, he announced in March that he had withdrawn his candidacy from consideration.

Last month, No Labels announced its decision not to pursue a unity ticket after failing to identify a suitable candidate.

While Duncan, a lifelong member of the Republican Party, declared his intention to vote for Biden, he highlighted the contrast between Biden’s decency and what he perceives as Trump’s lack of moral integrity.
