Should She Be Impeached?

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – It didn’t take long for New Mexico’s Democrat governor to face high-profile impeachment calls for banning the carrying of guns with an outrageous anti-gun rights order at the end of last week.

Last Friday, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a public health emergency over gun violence, containing an all-out ban on open and concealed carry.

Her order, which went into effect immediately, stipulates a $5,000 fine and applies even to licensed concealed carriers. It applies to Bernalillo County, including Albuquerque, the biggest city in New Mexico.

Grisham, who was reelected last November with 52% of the votes, hinted she would likely extend the emergency measure after its initial 30 day-period, Breitbart News reports.

Her ban was met with immediate backlash, including by local Democrat officials in Albuquerque, who said they would not enforce the governor’s order.

Those include Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, a former leader of the New Medico Democratic Party, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, and Police Chief Harold Medina, NBC 5 reports.

Two Republican state legislators – Reps. John Block and Stefani Lord – reacted by calling for Grisham’s impeachment for her anti-Second Amendment order.

“Impeach and remove Lujan Grisham. We even have Elon behind us on this!” Block wrote on X, referring to Elon Musk, the social media platform’s owner.

“This is an abhorrent attempt at imposing a radical, progressive agenda on an unwilling populace. Rather than addressing crime at its core, Governor Grisham is restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” Lord declared in a statement cited by The Guardian US.

Both chambers of New Mexico’s legislature have Democrat majorities.

Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen also issued a statement in response to Grisham’s order, arguing it was unconstitutional.

“Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an emergency order… as a response to the alarming and tragic rise in gun violence, particularly the heart-wrenching death of an 11-year-old boy this past week,” he wrote.

“As the elected Sheriff, I have reservations regarding this order. While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our Constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold,” Allen added.

“I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense,” the Sheriff concluded.
