Mike Johnson as House Speaker bodes big trouble for Joe Biden as the rising-star Republican is a strong proponent of the impeachment inquiry into the president, justifying it with three irrefutable facts in a powerful floor speech last month.
On Wednesday, Johnson (R-LA), a House member since 2017, won the speakership in a 220-209 vote, with all Republicans present backing his candidacy.
The newly inaugurated speaker is at the forefront of advocating for the House’s impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, particularly regarding the president’s alleged involvement in the Biden family’s business dealings publicly led by his son Hunter and his brother James, Breitbart News points out in a report on Johnson’s election.
In a compelling address on the House floor in September, Speaker Johnson provided three well-defined reasons for initiating the inquiry, originally set in motion by his predecessor, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
“There are three irrefutable facts that have taken us to this point: Number one, President Biden lied directly to the American people. Number two, President Biden’s family and their associates profited millions through shell companies. Number three, President Biden’s federal agencies are stonewalling our legitimate congressional inquiry,” the Louisiana Republican declared.
Johnson, who previously held the position of vice chairman of the House Republican Conference and was a member of the House Judiciary Committee, emphasized that these facts represented only a fraction of the issues at hand.
“There are so many scandals; there’s so much corruption that’s been uncovered. Every stone that we overturn leads to more and more corruption… A lot of the American people are simply getting lost in the barrage of evidence, in the barrage of allegations of corruption and the evidence itself,” Johnson declared on the House floor last month.
He also criticized the mainstream media for “trying to convince the American people that our inquiry, even the impeachment inquiry, is illegitimate.”
The then-future speaker subsequently condemned President Biden for receiving a $200,000 check from his brother, James Biden, who maintains that the payment was not related to business affairs.
“Joe Biden received $200k payment from his brother James— Hunter Biden’s business partner. My friend Rep. James Comer is taking the next steps for us to hold the President accountable for his influence peddling scheme. No one should get away with this— especially a President,” Johnson wrote on X.
