(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Dr. Anthony Fauci, who largely dictated America’s severe pandemic restrictions, might face legal trouble as a GOP US senator insists that he should be investigated for lying under oath about COVID-19’s origins.
At the end of December, Fauci retired as the Chief Medical Adviser of the White House and the director of the National Institute on Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a body of the National Institutes of Health, which he headed for 38 years.
Upon retirement, Fauci was the highest-paid federal government employee in history.
However, Republican US Senator Rand Paul, who frequently confronted Fauci while the latter was in office, now wants the top US prosecutor in Washington, DC, to probe the former White House medical adviser.
Paul (R-KY) argues that Fauci lied to Congress under oath about how the COVID-19 pandemic originated and the gain-of-function research that NIH funded with US taxpayer money at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Communist China.
On Tuesday, the GOP lawmaker sent a letter to US Attorney Matthew Graves, demanding a perjury probe against Fauci for claiming in a 2021 congressional hearing that COVID-19 didn’t emerge in the Chinese lab.
“Because of the DOJ’s inaction regarding Fauci’s lies to Congress, I’ve now sent a criminal referral to DC US Attorney Matthew Graves. I’m demanding an investigation,” the Kentucky Republican announced on Twitter.
“Before Congress, Dr. Fauci denied funding gain-of-function research, to the press he claims to have a dispassionate view on the lab leak hypothesis, and in private he acknowledges gain-of-function research at WIV to his colleagues,” Paul wrote in his letter to Graves.
“A congressional hearing, however, is not the place for a public servant to play political games — especially when the health and well-being of American citizens is on the line,” the senator told the DC prosecutor.
He stressed that in the May 11, 2021, congressional hearing, Fauci testified, “the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
However, in a February 1, 2020 email, Fauci admitted COVID-19 may have been genetically engineered because of gain-of-function research in China’s Wuhan, partly US-funded.
“[S]cientists in Wuhan University are known to have been working on gain-of-function experiments to determine that molecular mechanisms associated with bat viruses adapting to human infection, and the outbreak originated in Wuhan,” Fauci wrote in the email.
