(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A horrific murder in Alabama has shocked not only the local community but also political circles across the state.

Specifically, in Madison County, Alabama, an incident involving Kyle Hayden Lewter, 36, a local GOP political staffer, has drawn significant attention following his arrest.

Lewter is facing serious charges, including murder and sexual torture, which involves sexual abuse utilizing an inanimate object. Law enforcement officials have not disclosed the specifics of the latter accusation.

The authorities were alerted to a grim scene on Thursday in the 1700 block of Capshaw Road, located in the Harvest community, where they discovered the lifeless body of Derek Franklin Walls, 54.

The initial investigation suggests that Walls died as a result of a physical confrontation with Lewter, a person he reportedly knew.

“It appears that there was a physical altercation between both individuals who were known to each other, which ultimately resulted in the death of Mr. Walls,” officials stated, emphasizing that the two men were acquainted.

The nature of the altercation has not been fully detailed, aside from confirmation that the incident did not involve a firearm. The official cause of death is pending an autopsy.

In response to the tragedy, Walls’ family initiated a GoFundMe campaign to finance his funeral expenses.

Shelby Thorson, Walls’ daughter, expressed her gratitude towards the overwhelming support, stating, “We are forever grateful for all the kind words and support. I wanted to update everyone that I will be closing down the GoFundMe shortly. We now have enough to have a beautiful service thanks to all you guys and family donations. During this hard time, everyone has come together to make things happen, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you all again. God bless.”

Lewter’s involvement in local GOP politics, including paid work for state Senator Tom Butler and a position as vice chairman of the Madison County Young Republicans, has brought an additional layer of complexity to the case.

Both Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon and Senator Butler have expressed their shock and reluctance to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

McCutcheon acknowledged knowing Lewter and shared his surprise and shock at the allegations, while Butler conveyed his speechlessness and sorrow for all families impacted by this tragedy.

The community and its leaders are grappling with the unsettling reality of the incident as they await further details from the investigation.
