(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In the latest act of mass violence in the capital of the United States, seven people have been shot, with two confirmed dead.

Based on news reports, it is known that a mass shooting happened in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood, leaving two people dead and five others injured.

The gunfire occurred around 3 a.m. on P Street NW, near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

When police arrived, they found that seven people – five men and two women – had been shot.

“The initial information that we have at this time is a total of seven people were shot at this location,” stated D.C. Police Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll, emphasizing the severity of the incident.

The victims who lost their lives were Anthony Brown, a 32-year-old from Southeast D.C., and Jay Lucks, also 32, from Baltimore, Maryland.

According to the police, the five other injured individuals are currently being treated in hospitals and are in stable condition.

In the neighborhood, there are reports that a fight occurred outside the Play DC Lounge right before the shooting. One resident shared with News4 that they heard a loud disturbance and saw people running around in panic.

“I live one block over so I could hear the gunshots at 3 a.m., and it was quite disturbing,” shared another person living nearby. They described hearing an initial flurry of six or seven shots, followed by a brief silence and then two more shots.

The investigation into why this shooting happened is still ongoing. Police are looking through surveillance video and trying to find the person or people responsible.
