Michelle Obama was among the speakers at the Bits & Pretzels Founder Festival, an event which took place from September 24-26 on the sidelines of the annual Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany,
The Daily Mail reveals that she received 700,000 euros for her lecture, roughly equal to $741,000, citing two sources close to the event organizers.
The website of the tech fair that took part alongside the world-famous beer festival in Munich informs that the former first lady was going to address about 5,000 visitors.
The topic of her speech was how to “push past self-doubt while discussing the importance of inclusivity and diversity.”
The report points out that the “eye-watering” fee that 59-year-old Michelle Obama received for one hour at the Munich forum on startups is almost double the annual salary of President Joe Biden.
According to the Bits & Pretzels conference organizers, Obama had “topped the list” of people that attendees wanted to see as speakers for several years.
“They really pulled out all the stops to get her. It’s one of the highest fees that they have ever paid,” disclosed a source close to the team of the annual European tech fair.
A previous report by Axios alleged that Michelle Obama charged $200,000 for guest speeches while her husband, former President Barack Obama, charged $400,000.
There have been rumors the former first lady could run for president, replacing 80-year-old Biden as the Democrat nominee over growing public concerns about his advanced age and mental acuity.
Republican US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has also warned that Obama might step in as a substitute for Biden at the last minute.
“Here’s the scenario that I think is perhaps most likely, and most dangerous. In August of 2024, the Democrat kingmakers jettison Joe Biden and parachute in Michelle Obama,” Cruz said on his podcast.
According to Gallup polls, Obama “consistently gained sky-high approval ratings” during her time in the White House.
A recent YouGov poll found that 77% of US voters still viewed her favorably, while only 15% had a negative view of her.
