(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In a crushing though hardly surprising development for President Joe Biden, a new poll has discovered that more than half of Democrat voters want someone else to become the party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
The latest Fox News poll, unveiled on Sunday, signals a growing unease among Democrat party voters regarding President Joe Biden, aged 81, as the likely Democratic nominee poised to potentially face former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election, Breitbart News reports.
It stresses that this poll underscores a significant divide and unrest within the Democratic Party, following President Biden’s decision not to step down in favor of another Democratic candidate leading the party into the next election.
The survey’s results indicate a shifting sentiment within the party’s base.
Thus, the poll found that 54% of Democratic primary voters preferred a candidate other than Biden.
At the same time, only 43% of these voters favor Biden continuing as their nominee.
There is a noticeable increase in the number of Democrats seeking an alternative to President Biden.
In October, the split was slightly narrower, with 53% preferring another candidate, while 45% wanted to retain Biden.
In March, the division was even closer, with 52% desiring an alternative, compared to 44% supporting Biden.
Biden, responding to a reporter’s query in December about his reelection prospects, especially in light of pressure from prominent Democrats to reconsider his second run against Trump, stated, “I expect so,” when asked if he would run if Trump was not.
“But he is running, and — I just — I have to run,” he added.
This statement came amidst his admission to donors on the same day that he might not have considered running if Trump were not in the race.
“If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running. We cannot let him [Trump] win,” he said.
Polls at both national and battleground state levels indicate a challenging scenario for Biden against Trump.
A Morning Consult poll shows Trump leading Biden in six out of seven pivotal swing states.
According to NBC News, Trump has a two-point lead over Biden.
Fox News polling indicates a more significant advantage for Trump, leading Biden by four points.
The Fox News poll surveyed 1,007 registered voters between December 10 and 13. It carries a margin of error of 4.5 points.
