Teen Girl Killed in Mall Shooting

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A tragic incident unfolded at the Alderwood Mall food court in Lynnwood, where a teen girl was violently killed in a shooting.

According to Lynnwood police, the altercation began around 6:04 p.m. between two groups of people. During the dispute, a teenage boy pulled out a gun and fired, intending for the shot to hit someone from the opposing group.

Tragically, the bullet struck 13-year-old Jayda Woods-Johnson, who was not involved with either group.

Later that evening, the 16-year-old shooter’s mother brought him to a police station, where he remains in custody and faces charges of murder.

Afterward, authorities confirmed that Jayda Woods-Johnson was rushed to a nearby hospital after the shooting, but she died of her injuries.

In a press release, the Lynnwood Police Department expressed profound sympathy to the victim’s family and friends, condemning the senseless violence that led to her death.

Moreover, witnesses, including a mall employee, described the chaotic scene, as Alderwood Mall briefly went into lockdown immediately following the shooting.

As of now, the murder weapon has not been recovered, and detectives continue to pursue all leads and gather evidence.

Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell issued a statement describing the tragedy as ” horrible.”

She praised the police for their response and expressed heartfelt sorrow for Jayda’s family, emphasizing that no one should endure such a devastating loss.

“My heart breaks for the family of this young lady killed by a senseless act of violence,” Mayor Frizzell said.

She further continued “[I] grieve for her family as they attempt to come to grips with the loss of their daughter. No one should have to go through this sorrow; the journey ahead for all who know this young lady will be difficult, and they will remain in my thoughts and prayers.”
