It’s OVER – Disney+ Cancels Series!

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Struggling to maintain an audience after promising to show LGBTQ+ themes, it seems time is over for “Star Wars” fans as Disney+ canceled “Acolyte” after just one season.

Lucasfilm has decided not to proceed with a second season of the show, which centers around female characters and the Sith.

The eight-episode series debuted on June 4, initially drawing attention with 4.8 million views on its first day, thanks in part to positive press.

However, the series faltered with mixed reviews and disappointing ratings.

By the third week, it had dropped out of the top 10 and only re-entered briefly during its finale, with just 335 million minutes viewed. This figure is believed to be the lowest ever for a “Star Wars” series finale.

Creator Leslye Headland expressed interest in exploring the dynamics of the Sith during a time when they were outnumbered by the Jedi, flipping the script to view the ‘bad guys’ as underdogs.

Before its release, Headland had shared that “The Acolyte” would be “coded queer,” similar to the animated movie “Frozen.”

“When I saw Frozen as a grown a** woman, I cried through the entire movie,” she said.

She continued, “There was just something about the relationship between the sisters, the like devillainization of the classic kind of fairy tale ‘bad guy,’ you know, the concept of true love being between two sisters and not a heterosexual relationship. It just destroyed me, completely.”

She also added that her goal was to create something that queer viewers could connect with, wishing she had seen such representation in her own youth. “And I think I would have had a completely different life,” she reflected.

In a 2021 interview with The Advocate, Headland discussed her commitment to representation in “The Acolyte,” emphasizing that she intended to let her experiences as a queer woman influence the show’s final product.
