(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A wild incident occurred in Minneapolis, as four children under 15 were shot and one was critically injured after they were found driving a stolen car.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, around 1 a.m. over the weekend, officers were responding to multiple ShotSpotter alerts. Later, they received a 911 call about a vehicle where several people had been shot.

Inside the stolen car were five children, four of whom had been shot: two boys and two girls, all aged between 11 and 14. They were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

O’Hara reported that one of the girls was shot in the head and was in critical but stable condition. The other three children had non-life-threatening injuries, while the fifth child in the car was unharmed.

Moreover, O’Hara mentioned that this child, who was 11 years old, was detained at the scene when officers discovered the car was stolen but was later released to his parents.

Police found that the kids were driving the stolen Kia when a dark-colored sedan began following them. Someone inside the sedan opened fire with “fully automatic gunfire.”

O’Hara said they recovered about 30 pieces of ballistic evidence from the scene, though more shots might have been fired.

The shooter fled, and no arrests have been made.

Police also noted that the five juveniles will not face charges due to state laws protecting minors.

In a later press conference, the police chief described the shooting as “preventable,” suggesting that the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office could have acted on “at least two” of the juveniles in the days leading up to the shooting.

These cases had been referred for felony charges on August 9, though O’Hara did not specify which juveniles or the nature of the charges.
