(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Once again, a single incident means every air traveler in the United States has to adjust because the Transportation Security Administration has initiated new rules.
Specifically, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now says peanut butter is a “liquid.” This means you should think twice before bringing a jar of peanut butter on your next trip.
The TSA announced on Twitter that you can only have peanut butter in your carry-on if it’s 3.4 ounces or less. They said, “You may not be nuts about it, but TSA considers your PB a liquid.”
Peanut butter isn’t the only food on the TSA’s list of things you can’t bring in your carry-on. Creamy dips, hummus, jams, and jellies are also considered liquids with the same rules as peanut butter.
Many people on Twitter are unhappy about this rule. One person wrote, “The percentage of water our bodies carry may as well be banned too.” Another joked, “Sand and sugar would like a word about this definition of a liquid.”
But the TSA says it has a good reason for this rule. In December, a man from Rhode Island was caught at JFK airport in New York trying to hide a gun inside a jar of peanut butter. The TSA found parts of the .22 caliber semi-automatic gun hidden in two jars of peanut butter in his checked baggage.
At the time, John Essig, TSA’s Federal Security Director for JFK Airport, said, “The gun parts were artfully concealed in two smooth creamy jars of peanut butter, but there was certainly nothing smooth about the way the man went about trying to smuggle his gun.”
