(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Highlighting a crisis that threatens the safety of those tasked with protecting the borders, the El Paso Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol is under attack with an alarming surge in assaults by illegal aliens unlawfully entering the United States.
Federal prosecutors have charged multiple illegals, as the number of assaults against Border Patrol agents rises dramatically.
In recent incidents, Ricardo Prieto-Simental bit and attacked an agent near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, and Enrique Rodriguez-Salazar resisted arrest aggressively, while Erika Jasmin Lobato-Melendez pleaded guilty to injuring an agent.
In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, sixty-six El Paso Sector agents have already been assaulted, while the ongoing fiscal year is reflecting a worrying continuation of this trend, considering 104 assaults reported in the previous year.
Violent confrontations have involved various weapons, including rocks, glass bottles, and even physical assaults against officers.
With 413 incidents reported since October 2023, the El Paso Sector remains a hot spot for these assaults, exacerbated by the presence of the violent Tren de Aragua gang.
A recent attack involved a border agent being pulled off his horse by an illegal in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Additionally, over 100 suspected gang members were arrested after a riot in El Paso earlier this year.
In addition, El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony S. Good emphasized that such violence underscores the dangers agents face in securing the borders.
“Assaulting federal agents is not just a crime; it is an affront to our principles of justice and the safety of our nation. … We will not tolerate any harm to the well-being of those dedicated to protecting others,” he claimed.
The Department of Justice (DOJ), alongside the FBI and Border Patrol, is stepping up efforts to prosecute the attackers and violators now face substantial legal ramifications.
Assaulting federal agents is considered a serious crime, punishable by up to 10 years in jail and fines under federal law 18 USC 111.
Incidents like a CBP agent surviving shots thanks to body armor, and aggressors receiving stiff penalties, showcase how strong these agents are in the face of danger.
Moreover, a public service announcement has even been launched to raise awareness about the severe consequences of assaulting federal officers, urging the community to report any suspicious activities anonymously.
With further violence predicted if border policies do not change, it remains imperative to support these agents in their mission to maintain order and uphold our nation’s laws.
