Two Disgraced Liberals Will Duke It Out

Puzzle pieces with city names over American flag background.

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A spectacle of two scandal-plagued Democrats vying for leadership of America’s largest city is underway as disgraced Andrew Cuomo announced his candidacy for NYC mayor against disgraced mayor Eric Adams.

The former governor, who left office in 2021, is challenging incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who faces federal bribery and fraud charges.

Cuomo made his announcement on March 1, 2025, criticizing policies that cut police funding and claiming they created chaos in New York City.

His campaign has launched a super PAC called “Fix the City,” aiming to raise up to $15 million from wealthy donors to fund his political resurrection.

A February poll showed Cuomo with 33% support among NYC Democrat primary voters, compared to just 10% for the embattled Adams. This suggests that many liberal voters are willing to overlook Cuomo’s troubling past.

In typical fashion for Democrat politicians in trouble, Cuomo’s attorney, Rita Glavin, attempted to dismiss the serious findings.

She claimed the DOJ investigation was “based entirely on the NYS Attorney General’s deeply flawed, inaccurate, biased, and misleading report,” and insisting that “Governor Cuomo did not sexually harass anyone.”

Cuomo’s announcement focused heavily on public safety issues that have plagued the city under Democrat leadership, apparently hoping voters will forget his own scandals.

Even as he seeks this new position, Cuomo avoided directly addressing the harassment allegations that ended his governorship.

While attempting to present himself as a law-and-order candidate, Cuomo’s platform highlights the public safety crisis created by progressive policies.

He criticized fellow Democrats for devaluing police, creating recruitment problems for law enforcement in a city desperately needing more officers.

The former governor’s candidacy represents the latest example of a Democrat politician refusing to accept career-ending consequences for alleged misconduct.

Cuomo only vaguely acknowledged “mistakes” in his announcement video, stating he had “learned from them” without taking responsibility for the allegations that forced him from office.

In addition, Cuomo’s candidacy has been criticized by progressive Working Families Party members and other Democrat candidates seeking the mayoral position.

The race will likely highlight the deep divisions within the Democrat Party. Several candidates, including city Comptroller Brad Lander and state Senator Zellnor Myrie, will also compete in the June primary.

New York City voters will ultimately decide in November 2025 whether they want to trade one scandal-plagued Democrat for another or whether someone new will emerge from the crowded primary field to lead America’s largest city.
