(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Today, former President Donald Trump took a stance on the debate surrounding gender-affirming health care for minors by releasing a video on his social media platform, in which he vowed to punish doctors who provide such care to minors if he is reelected next year.
In the video, Trump outlined his plans to “protect children from left-wing gender insanity” by proposing a range of policy changes targeting the transgender community.
He stated that if elected president, he intends to pass a law recognizing only two genders, ban minors from receiving gender-affirming health care in all 50 states, and instruct federal agencies to cease programs that promote gender transition “at any age.”
Trump also plans to direct the Justice Department to investigate the pharmaceutical industry and individual hospitals, claiming they “deliberately covered up horrific long-term side effects of sex transitions.”
He added that doctors who treat transgender youth would be disqualified from Medicaid and Medicare programs, and patients who regret receiving gender-affirming health care as minors would be able to sue their doctors.
Most professional medical organizations, such as the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, consider gender-affirming health care for minors and adults to be safe, medically necessary, and life-saving.
Trump has targeted the transgender community in the past, including his administration’s 2017 ban on transgender people serving in the military and his call to ban transgender women from playing on women’s sports teams. He has not previously weighed in on gender-affirming health care for minors but has previously backed similar policies in the field of sports.
At least 18 states have enacted laws that bar transgender athletes from competing on sports teams consistent with their gender identity. Some top Republicans in Congress have backed federal legislation to that effect.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican contender for the 2024 presidential election, has approved controversial health and education policies that target the transgender community, including a law that prohibits transgender individuals from using Medicaid to pay for gender-affirming health care and a ban on talking about gender identity and sexual orientation in public school classrooms.
Trump stated that his proposed policy changes would extend to education as well, and school officials who suggest that a child “could be trapped in the wrong body” will face “severe consequences,” including the elimination of federal funding for schools and potential civil rights violations for sex discrimination.
He also proposed a new credentialing body for teachers to promote “positive education about the nuclear family, the roles of mothers and fathers, and celebrating rather than erasing the things that make men and women different and unique.”
