(GoRealNewsNow.com) – On the eve of presenting himself in New York to be arrested and arraigned, former President Donald Trump has increased his lead against possible 2024 rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, by 26 points, according to the first poll since the Manhattan district attorney indicted Trump.
Just two weeks ago, Trump was ahead of DeSantis by only 8 points, with 47% to 39%. But now, Trump has a 57% to 31% lead among Republican and Republican-leaning voters, according to a Yahoo News/YouGov survey.
This is a big change for Trump, who was behind DeSantis in February, with 41% to DeSantis’ 45%.
The poll, which took place last Thursday and Friday, also found that Trump increased his lead among the bigger group of announced and possible 2024 Republican candidates. He went from 44% to 52%, while DeSantis dropped to 21% from 28%.
The rise in support for Trump may be because of how Republican political figures have reacted to District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment related to a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.
Former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) told The Post that Bragg’s charges against Trump are making him “stronger” and could help him win the Republican nomination.
Zeldin also mentioned that “independent-minded general election voters” are raising concerns about the indictment and believe it is politically motivated.
