(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In an act that has sparked national outrage, a former Tennessee deputy is under scrutiny after allegedly shooting and killing seven dogs during an animal welfare check.
Former deputy with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department Connor Brackin has been charged with seven counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and eight counts of reckless endangerment following an incident in Bethel Springs, Tennessee.
The horrific event unfolded when Brackin responded to a call about malnourished pets at an allegedly abandoned home.
Upon arriving at the property on State Road 199, Brackin inexplicably opened fire, killing seven dogs – three inside the home and four outside.
The owners, Kevin Dismuke and his wife, were away having dinner, completely unaware of the tragedy unfolding at their residence.
According to a report, the couple say when they returned home from the meal, they found three of their dogs dead inside their home and four more dead outside.
“To step out of your car with a .223 caliber rifle and shoot through my damn house,” Dismuke said in utter disbelief.
Moreover, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) was called to investigate three days after the incident.
The delay in initiating an investigation raises concerns about the initial handling of the case and the potential for evidence tampering.
Meanwhile, the initial call that prompted the welfare check appears to have been based on false information.
Dismuke vehemently denies any neglect of his animals, stating, “I don’t know where they come up with the idea that they were malnourished or abandoned.”
The McMnairy County Sheriff’s Department’s handling of the aftermath also leaves much to be desired.
While Brackin resigned immediately following the incident and was subsequently charged, his employment for less than a month before this tragedy points to potential flaws in the department’s hiring and training procedures.
