(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Americans are facing yet another recall as Jack and Green Sprouts Inc. has recalled its 5-ounce packages of alfalfa sprouts due to potential Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected products, marked with lot #687 and UPC #763247198915, expire on January 29. This recall impacts sprouts distributed across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

This situation results from routine testing conducted by the state of Minnesota, despite the company’s own tests coming back negative.

This dangerous bacteria can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Alarmingly, this is not an isolated incident. Recent recalls have affected a wide range of products, from Frito-Lay potato chips to salmon sold at Costco.

Even more concerning, LG has recalled approximately 500,000 ranges due to a fire hazard, which has already resulted in property damage, injuries, and even pet deaths.

The Food Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a public alert about this recall. While no illnesses have been reported yet, the potential consequences of listeria infection are severe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that approximately 1,600 cases of listeriosis occur annually in the U.S., with about 260 resulting in death.

“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the FDA stated.

In the meantime, consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and discard any affected alfalfa sprouts immediately.
