(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In a shocking breach of public trust, an ex-U.S. Postal Service employee has been sentenced to prison for orchestrating a massive $24 million check theft scheme.

Nakedra Shannon, a former mail processing clerk at a USPS distribution center in Charlotte, North Carolina, received a 60-month prison sentence for her role in the elaborate theft operation.

Shannon and her co-conspirators, Desiray Carter and Donell Gardner, stole checks worth over $24 million from the U.S. mail between April and July 2023.

The magnitude of this crime is staggering. U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Dena J. King stated:

“U.S. Postal Service employee and a co-conspirator were sentenced to prison yesterday for a scheme involving stolen checks worth over $24 million.”

What is even more alarming is how the criminals exploited modern technology to profit from their theft.

According to the press release, “[Shannon] conspired with Gardner and Carter to steal incoming and outgoing checks from the U.S. mail, which Gardner and Carter then sold to other individuals, including using the Telegram channel OG Glass House.”

“[The total] includes over $12 million in stolen checks… and more than $8 million in stolen U.S. Treasury checks,” the release added.

This revelation exposes how easily stolen information can be disseminated and sold on encrypted messaging platforms, potentially putting millions of Americans at risk of financial fraud.

The involvement of U.S. Treasury checks in this scheme is particularly concerning. These checks, which often represent critical government payments to citizens, were among the millions of dollars worth of stolen items.

While Shannon received a 60-month sentence, her co-conspirators Carter and Gardner each received 54-month prison terms.

After their prison terms, all three will face supervised release and have been ordered to pay $113,333.87 in restitution.

However, this amount pales compared to the millions stolen, leaving many questioning whether justice has truly been served.

The involvement of multiple federal agencies in the investigation underscores the severity of this crime.

As stated in the press release:

“In making today’s announcement, U.S. Attorney King thanked U.S. Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, IRS-Criminal Investigation, the U.S. Department of Treasury Bureau of the Fiscal Service, and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for their investigation of the case.”

As the dust settles on this case, Americans demand more than imprisonment—it is time for an overhaul ensuring purity and efficiency in each government cog, starting from within USPS.
