Pence Attacks Trump In Front of Famous Dinner Crowd

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Former Vice President Mike Pence attacked former President Donald Trump’s role in the Capitol siege on January 6, 2021, in his strongest rebuke yet.

During his speech at the famous Gridiron Club Dinner in Washington D.C., Pence rejected Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results, further widening the divide between the two as the 2024 presidential race heats up.

While Pence has not officially announced his candidacy, he has taken steps toward a potential run.

Pence stated, “I had no right to overturn the election and his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable,” as reported by CNN.

Despite the usually lighthearted nature of the dinner, Pence felt it was necessary to address the serious matter of the Capitol attack. He referred to the event as “a tragic day” and added, “It’s one thing I haven’t joked about.”

As the President of the Senate, Pence presided over the vote certification on January 6. Trump attempted to pressure him into overturning the election results in favor of himself but to no avail. Some individuals who stormed the Capitol called for Pence to be hanged.

Pence took a stand against those who have downplayed the events of January 6, saying, “Tourists don’t break down doors to get to the Speaker of the House or voice threats against public officials.” He added, “What happened that day was a disgrace and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way.”

Despite recently requesting a judge to block a federal grand-jury subpoena for his testimony regarding January 6, Pence believes the public has a right to know what happened.

The former Vice President also poked fun at Trump’s handling of classified documents, which led to the FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion. He joked, “I read that some of those classified documents they found at Mar-a-Lago were actually stuck in the president’s Bible. Which proves he had absolutely no idea they were there,” as quoted by the Associated Press.

In a lighter moment, Pence noted that Trump hasn’t personally insulted him yet, saying, “He’s never called me a low-energy moron. Not yet.”
