Pelosi Attacks Catholic Archbishop

(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted the Catholic archbishop of San Francisco for refusing her communion due to her pro-abortion stance.

The 82-year-old Democrat, who remains a member of the House, reacted after San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone banned her from receiving communion in any of the churches he is in charge of.

According to Pelosi, the fact that she could not receive communion in her native city was the archbishop’s problem, not hers.

“I have a problem with my archbishop – well, the archbishop of the city that I represent – but I figure that’s his problem, not mine,” the former House speaker told Georgetown University’s Center on Faith and Justice in Washington, DC, in an interview cited by Fox News.

She pointed out that she gave birth to her five children over six years and asked pro-life members of Congress if they could do the same.

“You want to talk about this subject, OK? We go right to the one issue, because everything else, we are pretty much in sync when it comes to the social compact of the Catholic bishops and the rest. But they are willing to abandon the bulk of it because of one thing and that’s the fight that we have,” Pelosi elaborated.

In May 2022, Cordileone sent a public letter informing Pelosi that she shouldn’t attend Mass and, if she did, his priests wouldn’t give her communion.

“I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance,” the Catholic archbishop of San Francisco wrote in the letter.

He also disclosed that in an earlier letter from April 7, 2022, he warned Pelosi that “should you not publicly repudiate your advocacy for abortion’ rights’ or else refrain from referring to your Catholic faith in public and receiving Holy Communion, I would have no choice but to make a declaration, in keeping with canon 915, that you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

According to Cordileone’s second letter, Nancy Pelosi failed to comply with his request.

However, in the summer of 2022, Pelosi received communion while visiting Pope Francis in the Vatican. There she attended the pope’s mass for the feasts of St. Peter and St. Paul.

In her interview, the high-profile Democrat said that the June 2022 ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn “Roe v. Wade” was an “insult” to women.

“It’s a slap in the face to women about using their own judgment to make their own decisions about their reproductive freedom,” she said at the time, adding that it would be “on the ballot” in the 2022 midterm.
