(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Shocking millions of Trump supporters, Mike Pence, the former vice president, called the recent indictment of former president Donald Trump by a Manhattan grand jury an “outrage” while speaking with National Review editor Rich Lowry at the National Review Institute’s Ideas Summit.
As most know, Pence has recently been very critical of Trump and has angered Trump and Trump’s supporters on more than one occasion.
Pence said, “The unprecedented indictment of a former president of the United States for a campaign finance issue is an outrage.” He believes that most Americans can see it as a political attack.
Pence pointed out that District Attorney Alvin Bragg had campaigned on bringing charges against Trump. He said, “That should be offensive to every American — left, right, and center. Every American deserves equal treatment under the law.”
He also mentioned that the indictment sends a bad message to the world about American justice. He said it could help dictators and authoritarians justify their own abuse of power.
The Manhattan grand jury decided to indict Trump for his involvement in a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. This makes Trump the first former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.
Bragg’s office confirmed that they have contacted Trump’s attorney to arrange his surrender. Trump is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, says the former president is innocent. He said, “He did not commit any crime. We will vigorously fight this political prosecution in court.”
The indictment accuses Trump of falsifying business records related to the payment to Daniels. She claimed to have had a sexual affair with Trump before the 2016 election. Trump’s former associate, Michael Cohen, paid Daniels $130,000 to keep her quiet.
Prosecutors say Trump falsified records to hide the reimbursement payments to Cohen as legal expenses. Cohen claims Trump knew about the misleading records.
Trump responded to the news by calling the indictment “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.” He also warned that “this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden.” He stated that this kind of attack on a political opponent has never happened before in U.S. history.
