(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Former First Lady Michelle Obama attacked former President Donald Trump because, in her view, his administration had “no diversity” and “no color on stage” when he took over the White House.
Speaking in the latest episode of her podcast, Michelle Obama recalled the two reasons her family was incredibly sad when they had to leave the White House: First, because they had spent a lot of time there, and second because it was Donald Trump who had succeeded her husband Barack Obama as President of the United States.
The former first lady recounted that she surrendered to “uncontrollable sobbing” after leaving the White House on January 20, 2017.
“When those doors shut, I cried for 30 minutes straight, uncontrollable sobbing, because that’s how much we were holding it together for eight years,” Obama said in the podcast episode that was shared with People magazine and quoted by Fox News.
“That day was so emotional for so many different reasons. We were leaving the home we had been in for eight years, the only home our kids really knew,” added the wife of former Democrat President Barack Obama, who was in office from 2009-2017.
“They remembered Chicago but they had spent more time in the White House than anywhere, so we were saying goodbye to the staff and all the people who helped to raise them,” she added.
Michelle Obama emphasized that she felt terrible that Donald Trump got to take her husband’s seat in the Oval Office, partly because she noticed “no diversity” when Trump came to the stage.
“To sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display – there was no diversity, there was no color on that stage. There was no reflection of the broader sense of America,” complained the former First Lady.
“Many people took pictures of me, and they’re like, ‘You weren’t in a good mood?’ No, I was not! But you had to hold it together like you do for eight years,” she elaborated.
Obama then attacked Trump for saying that his inauguration attracted a large crowd. In her view, though, there “weren’t that many people there.”
“You walk through the Capitol, you wave goodbye, you get on Marine One, and you take your last flight flying over the Capitol. There weren’t that many people there – we saw it, by the way!” she declared.
Michelle Obama’s comments made it clear her feelings upon leaving the White House with Trump taking over were similar to those of her husband, who shared how he felt at the time in a 2017 interview with Prince Harry.
“Well, the first thing that went through my mind was, sitting across from Michelle, how thankful I was that she had been my partner through that whole process,” the former president stated back then.
“[I] had concerns about how the country moves forward but overall, there was a serenity there more than I would have expected,” he added.
