(GoRealNewsNow.com) – The Biden administration has broken the COVID-19 Origin Act by missing the deadline to make public classified intelligence information on the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic.
The COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 was adopted by both chambers of Congress unanimously and signed by President Joe Biden in March.
It had set Sunday, June 18, as the deadline for declassifying US intelligence on the coronavirus’s origin.
However, as of the morning of June 23, Friday, the Biden administration has failed to do that, KATU reports.
“What are you afraid of, why are you so afraid of letting the public know the truth,” tweeted US Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), who introduced the bill.
“It’s not a request. It’s not ‘please.’ It is the law. They have to declassify the information, and they have to give a full report,” the Missouri Republican added.
According to another GOP senator, Rand Paul (R-KY), the intelligence that should be released would further prove that COVID-19 originated in a lab in China’s Wuhan.
“The lab in Wuhan for a week went dark, and they think that maybe an accident happened and they were trying to clean it up. About that same time, three researchers got sick,” Paul said.
He was referring to last week’s report by investigative journalists Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger revealing three Chinese scientists in the Wuhan lab fell sick with COVID-19 in November 2019, weeks before the official “patient zero.”
In another related development, the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) confirmed that $1.4 million in US taxpayer money funded the Wuhan lab from 2014-2019.
Senator Rand Paul argued that declassifying US intelligence on the coronavirus origin had been challenging since those in charge felt guilty because of the Wuhan lab funding.
Yet, he insisted making the intelligence public was vital because of other no less dangerous research.
“My fear is the next time this happens, it could be a virus that kills 5% of the people, 20% of the people. There are viruses that could kill half of the population that they’re experimenting with. This is as dangerous and as significant as nuclear weapons and we’re not paying any attention to this,” Paul said.
