The Harvard University and Harris Poll survey also established that most believe Trump will be acquitted of the 37 charges over allegedly mishandling classified government documents.

The poll conducted after Trump was arraigned discovered 55% of registered voters consider his indictment “politically motivated,” while 45% think it is “valid.”

Almost the same share – 56% – of the respondents deem the indictment “interference by the Department of Justice in the 2024 elections,” and 44% view it as “the fair application of the law.”

A roughly similar percentage – 57% – of those polled are convinced Trump will be found not guilty of any charges, most of which claim he broke the 1917 Espionage Act.

The Harvard-Harris survey also asked registered voters about President Joe Biden’s own case of alleged mishandling of classified papers and the scandal over former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails.

A nearly two-thirds majority – 65% – say the president “mishandled” classified government papers, 72% believe the same of Hillary Clinton, while 69% think Clinton “obstructed justice” by deleting electronic correspondence.

“Do you think indicting a former president for taking classified documents after leaving office, something done by Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and other senior officials, is a fair application justice or selective prosecution?” the poll asked further.

More than half of those surveyed – 53 % – believe the development constitutes a “selective prosecution.” The remaining 47% see it as a proper application of the law.

Even though most registered voters think Trump will be acquitted, more than half say the Justice Department has a “strong case” against him; 42% consider the DOJ case “weak.”

When asked if he is indeed “guilty” of mishandling classified documents, 44% say he “probably [is]… and should be convicted,” 30% say he “is probably innocent,” and 26% think Trump may be guilty, but he shouldn’t have been indicted because of the 2024 election.

The Harvard/Harris poll surveyed 2,090 registered voters June 14-15. No error margin was provided.
