(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In a shocking case of serial predation, a California man was charged with brutal offenses against women and now is facing charges of drugging and assaulting them.
Michael DiGiorgio, a 50-year-old resident of the South Bay area, stands accused of a horrifying string of crimes that took place between May 2019 and November 2021.
The charges against him paint a picture of a predator who lured women to his homes in Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, where he drugged and sexually assaulted them.
The most serious charge DiGiorgio faces is murder, as one of his victims died from the drugs he administered.
In addition to murder, he faces counts of rape by use of a drug, sodomy by use of a drug, sexual penetration by use of a drug and forcible sexual penetration.
He also is accused of furnishing a controlled substance, forcible rape, oral copulation by use of a drug, and rape of an unconscious person. If convicted, DiGiorgio could face life in prison.
“I extend my deepest sympathy to the victims, whose lives have been irrevocably changed and the life lost by the alleged brutal acts of the offender, “District Attorney George Gascón said.
While District Attorney Gascón’s words of sympathy are appreciated, they do little to explain how DiGiorgio was able to continue his alleged crime spree after being previously charged with similar offenses in August 2020.
That case was dismissed due to a lack of a speedy trial and suppression of evidence, raising serious concerns about the competence of the prosecution and the court system.
Moreover, the failure to secure a conviction in 2020 allowed DiGiorgio to allegedly victimize more women, highlighting the dire consequences of legal loopholes and procedural missteps.
“Our office is committed to holding him accountable for the pain and trauma he has inflicted,” Gascón added.
While the District Attorney’s office now claims to be committed to holding DiGiorgio accountable, one cannot help but wonder why this commitment was not evident during the previous prosecution attempt.
As the investigation continues, authorities believe there may be more victims. They have set up a hotline for information and released a photo of DiGiorgio, urging anyone with information to come forward.
This proactive approach is commendable, but it also raises questions about how many more victims could have been spared if similar efforts had been made following the initial charges in 2020.
