The promising young athlete with 100,000 followers became yet another victim of senseless youth violence, as authorities have charged a juvenile with his murder.
18-year-old Chrystofer A. Whyte, known to his followers as “hi.imchrys,” was struck by a single bullet at Pier Village in Long Branch, New Jersey, just before 9 p.m.
First responders pronounced the New Brunswick teen dead at the scene.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced on July 1 that two individuals have been charged in connection with the killing.
A teenager, whose identity remains protected due to his age, faces the most serious charges, including murder and weapons offenses. The juvenile is currently being held in a detention center.
Additionally, 18-year-old Dwayne Exilus faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit unlawful possession of a weapon and hindering.

Friends of Whyte told investigators that the TikTok star had been facing harassment from local youth during his live videos.
Jaiden Roche, who knew Whyte, offered insight into what may have triggered the deadly confrontation.
“I think this whole situation was about egos,” Roche said.
Moreover, investigators are still working to determine whether the suspects were involved in the reported bullying and if they had prior interactions with Whyte.
In a haunting detail, Whyte posted two videos on TikTok just hours before his death.
The final post showed him sitting in a striped blue chair on the same beach where he would later lose his life, with the location “#longbranch” tagged in the caption.
Another post that day carried the prescient message: “Stay away from ppl that ignore you until they need you.”
Those who knew Whyte personally described a young man who was more than just his online persona.
Joseph LaSala, his former football coach at Woodbridge High School, remembered Whyte as a student-athlete with a bright future and positive attitude.
According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the charges against Exilus include:
Second-degree conspiracy to commit unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun), second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree hindering, and one count of fourth-degree possession of a prohibited weapon.
As friends and followers mourn the loss of a young man who brought joy to many online, the case adds to growing concerns about youth violence and the influence of social media.
The investigation into Whyte’s death continues as authorities work to understand what triggered this senseless act of violence on what should have been a peaceful summer evening at the beach.
