(GoRealNewsNow.com) – House Republicans delivered a victory for President Trump’s agenda, passing a six-month last-minute funding bill that cuts wasteful federal spending while bolstering national defense.
With a razor-thin 217-213 vote margin, Republicans stood firm against Democrat obstruction to prevent a government shutdown and put America’s fiscal house in order.
The Republican-led bill passed the House with strong party unity, reflecting Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) leadership and President Trump’s call for Republicans to remain “UNITED — NO DISSENT.”
The legislation proposes a $13 billion reduction in non-defense spending while increasing defense funding by $6 billion, demonstrating Republicans’ commitment to fiscal responsibility and national security.
Vice President JD Vance made a special trip to Capitol Hill to rally support for the measure, underscoring the administration’s commitment to the bill’s passage.
The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it faces an uphill battle. To overcome potential filibuster attempts, it requires at least eight Democrat votes.
Speaker Johnson did not mince words when challenging Democrats to support the bill:
“Here’s the bottom line. If congressional Democrats refuse to support this clean CR, they will be responsible for every troop who misses a paycheck, for every flight delay from reduced staffing at TSA, for every negative consequence that comes from shutting down the government.”
Despite Republican unity, several Democrats immediately attacked the bill, with Representative Rosa DeLauro calling it “a blank check for Elon Musk and President Trump.”
This characterization ignores that the bill reduces government spending while protecting critical defense functions – a rare achievement in Washington’s spending battles.
Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) highlighted Trump’s influence on the bill’s fiscal restraint:
“He said we’re going to look at spending at the Pentagon, and this is the first time we’ve ever had one of these that was actually a reduction in government spending.”
Meanwhile, Representative Tom Cole (R-OK) effectively countered Democrats’ criticisms about presidential authority in the bill, stating:
“We’re not going to have a Republican Senate and a Republican House restrict a Republican president from the legitimate exercise of executive authority.”
Furthermore, President Trump actively participated in securing passage, urging House Republicans to stand together and save internal disagreements for “another day when the timing is right.”
Senate Democrats remain undecided on their strategy, with some threatening opposition despite the risk of causing a government shutdown.
Should they choose obstruction over cooperation, Americans will clearly see which party is prioritizing political games over responsible governance.
The battle lines are drawn as Senate Republicans work to secure the 60 votes needed for passage before Friday’s deadline.
