(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In a shocking revelation of corruption within the U.S. Navy, Malaysian defense contractor Leonard “Fat Leonard” Francis has been finally sentenced to 15 years in prison for orchestrating a massive bribery scheme.

See the tweet below.

Francis ran Singapore-based company Glenn Defense Marine Asia, pleaded guilty in 2015 to bribing naval officers and overcharging the Navy by a staggering $35 million.

The extent of his corruption is mind-boggling, involving cash payoffs, luxury items, and even prostitutes provided to Navy officials in exchange for lucrative contracts and classified information.

U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath did not mince words about the severity of Francis’s crimes, stating, “Leonard Francis lined his pockets with taxpayer dollars while undermining the integrity of U.S. Naval forces.”

This blatant abuse of American resources and trust demands a thorough reevaluation of how military contracts are awarded and monitored.

The scandal, which has been dubbed one of the largest bribery investigations in U.S. military history, has far-reaching implications.

Director of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Omar Lopez highlighted the grave nature of Francis’s actions, stating that he “exploited sensitive national security information.”

Adding insult to injury, Francis attempted to flee justice in September 2022 by cutting off his GPS ankle monitor.

He was apprehended in Venezuela two weeks later, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the American justice system and raising questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in handling high-profile cases.

The fallout from this scandal extends beyond Francis himself. Four former Navy officers had their felony convictions vacated due to allegations of prosecutorial misconduct and were allowed to plead guilty to misdemeanors instead.

While Francis’s sentence includes 15 years in prison, $20 million in restitution to the Navy, and a $150,000 fine, many Americans may question whether this punishment truly fits the crime.

“Unfortunately, as Leonard acknowledged in his early guilty plea and immediate cooperation, his greed drove him to commit bribery and to commit fraud,” – Francis’ attorney, William Douglas Sprague, said.
