(GoRealNewsNow.com) – Washington, D.C., is on high alert, bracing for potential threats as it prepares for high-profile events, including the Electoral College certification and presidential inauguration.

Despite no specific threats, law enforcement is on high alert following recent attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas.

In an unprecedented move, the Electoral College certification has been designated as a National Special Security Event for the first time in history.

This decision follows the January 6th incident at the U.S. Capitol, which exposed vulnerabilities in the nation’s security apparatus.

The U.S. Secret Service is working overtime to coordinate with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of these crucial democratic processes.

Matthew Young, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, stated:

“While we cannot comment on protective means or methods, what we can say is that we will continue to work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners in assessing the ever-changing threat landscape and will adjust our security plans as needed. Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for our protectees, and all individuals involved in these events.”

The heightened security measures come on the heels of two alarming incidents. In New Orleans, a terrorist attack claimed 15 lives and injured 37 when a truck plowed through crowds on Bourbon Street.

Meanwhile, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, raising suspicions of a coordinated assault on American soil.

In response to these threats, anti-scale fencing has been erected around key areas in Washington, D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department has ramped up its presence across the city despite claiming there are no known threats.

The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., posted on social media that while “there is no known threat to the District of Columbia, out of an abundance of caution, MPD has heightened its security posture across the city in light of recent events.”

The Metro Transit Police have also increased security throughout the public transportation system.

As the D.C. prepares for these high-stakes events, including the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter, it is questionable how America reached a point where such extreme security measures are necessary in its own capital.
