(GoRealNewsNow.com) – BREAKING NEWS NOW: A submarine, carrying out a costly tourist trip to the Titanic shipwreck in the Atlantic Ocean, has vanished. The passengers on board include a renowned explorer. Authorities and families of the passengers are now searching to find the missing individuals.
On Monday, the Boston Coast Guard reported that they had initiated a search for the small submarine, which offers tourists an opportunity to witness the infamous Titanic shipwreck. According to the BBC, this colossal wreck lies approximately 12,500 feet underwater off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
OceanGate Expeditions, the private company offering tours to the shipwreck site, acknowledged that the missing submarine was part of their fleet, also revealing that their crew members were on board.
The company stated, “Our focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families. We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely.”
Famous world explorer Hamish Harding was among the passengers on the missing submarine, his family confirmed on Facebook. Harding is a British businessman who previously purchased a trip to space on The Blue Origin rocket. He posted a photo of himself signing a banner for OceanGate’s newest trip to the Titanic shipwreck last Sunday.
Excited about his upcoming journey, Harding mentioned his eagerness to finally see the Titanic despite the persistent bad weather in Newfoundland. He explained that the mission on Monday morning would be the only opportunity for 2023.
Harding shared his plans the day before the dive, “We started steaming from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada yesterday and are planning to start dive operations around 4 am tomorrow morning. Until then we have a lot of preparations and briefings to do.”
His stepson, Brian Szasz, echoed Harding’s post, saying, “Thoughts and prayers for my stepfather Hamish Harding as his submarine has gone missing exploring Titanic. Search and rescue mission is underway.”
Tickets to view the Titanic shipwreck aboard the OceanGate submarine can cost up to $250,000. The company promotes the eight-day voyage as an “opportunity to step out of everyday life and discover something truly extraordinary.”
The diving experiences can take up to 10 hours each. OceanGate often shares news of their trips to the Titanic on their social media platforms. They note that they rely on Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites for sea communications due to the wreck’s location in the middle of the Atlantic.
OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush said in an interview with CBS last year that his company continually attracts “Titaniacs,” individuals fascinated with the ship to the extent that they are willing to risk financial security for the trip.
