(GoRealNewsNow.com) – BREAKING NOW: A senior State Department official declared on Thursday that a Chinese balloon that had flown over the United States for eight days was carrying “multiple antennas” capable of collecting signals intelligence. The official added that the balloon’s manufacturer had been linked to the Chinese military.
China accused the United States of destroying a weather balloon. However, the State Department official stated that the balloon had equipment designed for collecting communications and that the U.S. would consider taking action against Beijing.
High-altitude U-2 plane photos confirmed the presence of the equipment, which was described as “inconsistent” with weather balloons and “likely capable of collecting and geo-locating communications.”
The official confirmed that the U.S. was confident that the manufacturer of the balloon had direct ties to China’s military and was an approved vendor of the People’s Liberation Army.
The balloons are part of a fleet used for surveillance operations, often directed by the military.
The U.S. government plans to take action against PRC entities linked to the PLA that supported the balloon’s intrusion into American airspace and expose and address the PRC’s more extensive surveillance activities that threaten national security, allies, and partners.
Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder stated on Wednesday that the U.S. has gathered a wealth of information about the Chinese surveillance balloons and will be able to detect them in the future.
He added that some of the sightings of Chinese balloons over American territory during the former Trump administration and another during the Biden administration were later determined to be high-altitude spy balloons.
Ryder acknowledged that the Chinese balloons were surveilling strategic sites, including some strategic military bases in the continental United States.
