The infection, which occurred over the summer in the South of France, has left John unable to see lyrics or watch anything, severely impacting his ability to work on new music.
This unexpected turn of events has forced the singer to take a step back from his creative pursuits, leaving fans wondering if they have heard the last of his iconic tracks.
“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France,” John revealed. “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest.”
Despite this setback, John managed to collaborate with Brandi Carlile on a new song, “Never Too Late,” for an upcoming documentary about his life.
The film, titled “Elton John: Never Too Late,” covers his 50-year career and will be available on Disney+ on December 13.
He expressed gratitude toward the team he had during that time, “I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks…”
“…I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far,” he added.
John’s health struggles extend beyond his recent eye infection. Over the years, he has faced numerous health issues, including organ removals, knee and hip surgeries, a pacemaker, and hearing loss.
Adding to his woes, John’s Broadway show “Tammy Faye” is closing shortly after opening due to poor reviews.
