(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A 17-year-old chess grandmaster and young American prodigy has become the center of controversy as he was arrested after striking a female videographer.

See the tweet below.

Christopher Yoo, once hailed as a rising star in American chess, now faces assault charges.

Yoo was competing in the prestigious U.S. Chess Championship in St. Louis when the incident occurred after losing a crucial match to Fabiano Caruana.

As Yoo’s frustration boiled over, he crumpled his scoresheet, stormed out of the room, and shockingly struck a female videographer on his way out.

The Saint Louis Chess Club swiftly expelled Yoo from the competition and banned him for violating conduct codes.

“We take player conduct seriously and do not tolerate violations of our standards,” St Louis Chess Club stated.

Moreover, the legal consequences for Yoo are severe. He was charged with fourth-degree assault, and the case has been referred to juvenile court.

Yoo and his family have since issued apologies, acknowledging that the videographer did nothing to provoke the attack.

In a statement, the American prodigy expressed remorse and stated he would seek therapy for his mental well-being.

This incident is not isolated in the world of competitive chess. Recent years have seen controversies involving cheating allegations, poisoning suspicions, and now physical violence.

In the meantime, it is crucial to remember that chess, like any competitive sport, should be about skill, strategy, and sportsmanship.
