(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A nice outing turned into a tragedy when a hunting accident in Virginia claimed the life of an American outdoorsman.
58-year-old Lester Clayton Harvey Jr. died after a bear that his hunting partner shot fell from a tree and landed on him.
The incident happened during a bear hunting expedition in Lunenburg County, Virginia.
Harvey, a resident of Phenix, Virginia, was standing about 10 feet from a tree when one of his hunting partners shot a bear perched in its branches.
In a tragic turn of events, the fallen bear crashed down on Harvey, causing severe injuries.
Although he was quickly taken to local medical facilities after a fellow hunter provided immediate first aid, Harvey died of his injuries a few days later.
The Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) labeled the incident a “hunting incident,” avoiding any implications of wrongdoing or the need for increased regulations.
Harvey’s obituary described him as “a friend to all” and “an avid outdoorsman.” He is survived by his wife, three sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren.
While hunting accidents happen, this particular case stands out due to its unusual circumstances.
Notably, DWR has not announced any new safety recommendations following the incident.
Similar incidents have occurred in recent years, including cases in Alaska and North Carolina.
As the community mourns the loss of Lester Clayton Harvey Jr., a funeral service was scheduled at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
This gathering celebrated the life of a man who cherished family, friendship and a love for the outdoors.
