(GoRealNewsNow.com) – A jarring development that sent shockwaves through the island of Nantucket, as ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston office arrested four illegal aliens on charges of sexual misbehavior against children.
This series of arrests has thrust the intersection of immigration policy and public safety into the spotlight, igniting a firestorm of debate in the process.
ICE arrested Elmer Sola, a 49-year-old Salvadoran illegal, who faces a staggering array of charges, including multiple counts of aggravated rape and eight counts of indecent assault on a 14-year-old teenager.
His arrest on September 10 was swiftly followed by that of 28-year-old Bryan Daniel Aldana-Arevalo, who had previously been released on bail for similar offenses.
ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons said, “He represents a significant danger to the children of our Massachusetts communities. ERO Boston will not tolerate such a threat to the most vulnerable of our population.”
He continued, “We will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from our New England neighborhoods.”
Moreover, the development continued with the apprehension of Gean Do Amaral Belafonte, a Brazilian illegal who entered the U.S. in 2018, violated the terms of his admission, left the U.S. in 2021 and eventually returned illegally sometime after that.
Do Amaral was charged with sexual assault and battery, and his case prompted Lyons to reiterate ERO’s commitment.
“Gean Do Amaral Belafronte unlawfully entered the United States, made his way to Nantucket, and allegedly sexually assaulted one of our residents,” Lyons asserted.
“We have been consistent in our promise to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders. This is not a hollow expression; it is a sincere promise to the residents of our New England communities,” ERO director added.
These incidents have thrust Massachusetts’ sanctuary city policies into the harsh glare of public scrutiny. With eight such cities dotting the state’s landscape, the tension between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities is palpable.
In addition, the discord is further exacerbated by the state’s status as one of the wealthiest in the nation, contrasted against the potentially crippling costs of providing social services to the burgeoning population of undocumented immigrants.
