(GoRealNewsNow.com) – In a shocking revelation of urban decay and potential criminal activity, a horrifying homicide left two people dead in a suspicious fire that engulfed a cluttered garage in Jamaica, Queens.
The tragedy, now ruled a homicide, exposes the dangerous consequences of unchecked squatting, and raises alarming questions about drug activity in our neighborhoods.
The fatal blaze erupted early Saturday morning in a detached garage on 91st Avenue near 175th Street, which killed 35-year-old Edward Daniel Jacobs and an unidentified woman.
Over 60 firefighters rushed to the scene, battling flames that had already spiraled out of control, but despite their efforts, the victims could not be saved.
As investigators examine the charred remains, disturbing details have emerged that paint a grim picture of the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
The garage, described as having “heavy clutter,” may have been a makeshift shelter for squatters.
Adding to the concern, eyewitness accounts suggest that drug activity may have been a factor in this deadly incident. Local resident Fahim Shawon reported seeing drug equipment, including needles, in the area.
“I used to not even know that people lived in the garage,” he said. “Last night, there were four or five [people] on the stairs.”
The investigation has taken a sinister turn, with authorities now treating the fire as an act of arson.
Police are reportedly looking into a potential suspect – a woman known to the male victim.
Perhaps most alarming is the revelation that the front door of the main house had no lock, allowing anyone who wished to enter to easily access it.
This blatant disregard for basic security measures not only endangered the lives of those living on the property but also created a haven for illegal activities right in the heart of a residential neighborhood.
